Well the Papworth Charity Bike Project finally came to an end the other day with the presentation of the bike, to the winner* and the massive cheque to Papworth Hospital.
The presentation took place at the hospital and Helen Daniel, Papworth hospital fund raising manager, was there to accept the cheque.

I think her words in a thank you letter to the club say it all:

On behalf of the staff and patients at Papworth Hospital, thank you so much for coming to the hospital yesterday to present the proceeds of the motorbike raffle for the fantastic amount of £8,543. This wonderful donation has been paid into the Papworth Hospital Charity for the benefit of the Transplant Unit, in accordance with your wishes.
Please do extend our thanks to all those in the club who worked on the bike and helped to make this such a successful project - two years is a long time to work on the bike, though I am sure you really enjoyed that part! It was really kind of you all to donate the proceeds to the hospital and we’re really grateful for all you have done.
Two photos and the text will appear on our website shortly - have a look at http://www.papworthhospital.nhs,uk/fundraising
I hope you have a good Christmas and a great New Year.
Yours sincerely
Helen Daniel (Mrs)
Fund Raising Manager.

And as promised here is a link to the Papworth Fund Raising page.

*Unfortunately Ian Toner the winner, was unable to make the presentation as he was on holiday in the USA at the time so a friend of his, Mark Howells, kindly stood in and received the bike.

Below are some photos from the hand over.

Mark Howells and big grin, imagine what the actual winners face will look like

Helen Daniel receives the cheque from Paul Halliday LC Club Treasurer.

And a final word just to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the project and thanks also to all those that bought tickets.
Well done!

Brilliant!

I hope the winner stays in touch with the LC 'fraternity'. It would be nice to see it around. I held off buying an F2 until after the draw. Are you sure I didn't win it?

For some reason Ian is having trouble posting on the forum or at least in this thread.

Just a line to say I'm now a fully paid up member of the club and looking forward to events, shows and the mag etc, I read in the Motorcycle Monthly free paper you were thinking of a charity Land's End to John O'Groats ride and I was happy for the "red lc" Papworth bike to be used for this if it were to go ahead, I did email "Weaver" this in mid Jan but heard nothing yet so presume it's still in it's preperation stage to see if it will be happening.

The bike is about to go on show at our local Yamaha Dealers, Cope Motorcycles Colchester, their contact details  01206 868663                                      tk-cope@btconnect.com they are having a month of open days to promote their Yamaha's so should make some good conversation for those who walk through the doors, I also would be grateful for any pic's of the red lc in her rebuild stages as it would be good to have a small portfolio for her, Weaver said he would get me some pic's on cd but maybe he's a busy man at the moment.

It was a shame I was on me hol's in December as it would have been nice to meet the guys at Papworth and have a chat about the bike and all that you guys went through to pull it all together,  well she now sits in my bike shed amongst my two Z900's, ZR1000 and the Sherco 2.7 so she's in good company, (heated with carpets on the floor and curtains at the windows) as the wife informs me!!

The draw was a laugh seen the vid on You Tube, Kevin Schwantz looking for his own ticket and finally pulled mine out "Ian" sorry it was the end of the day at the tail end BMF when I brought 2 tickets and I only had time for my mobile number and name, anyway no-one expects to win these raffles (do they?) but that proved me WRONG!!

Look forward to a meet or two at some stage of this year.

Reg's Ian.

I am sending him some flyers, do you want me to email you some pics?
I was going to do a poster (A4) to thank all those who contributed and bought tickets and have some pics from the hand over. I wanted to do it to take to my local Yam dealer to let them know what happened.

OK I'll put something together, its a bit jumbled as it was done over a period of time and I sporadically got stuff from those involved.

I am getting something through the ether....is there anybody there...knock once for yes and twice for no.

Unfortunately due to some technical error on the board Ian is unable to post anything himself.
Here by the power of my crystal ball is his last message.
